Aloak Spam Filter Setup - MS Outlook 2000/XP
These instructions describe how to use the Aloak Spam Filter with Microsoft Outlook 2000/XP, to move incoming messages identified as Spam to a chosen folder.

First create a mail folder to move Spam email to:

  1. In Outlook, go to the file menu and select new and then folder. (If you do not see the folder option then hover your mouse over the double arrows at the bottom of the menu until it appears).
  2. In the window "Select where to place the folder", select the top item in the folder list. Then enter in the name for the folder in the "Name" box e.g. "Spam Mail", and then click on OK. Outlook may now ask you to create a shortcut, just click on No.
Next, setup a rule to move all Spam email into the new folder automatically:
  1. From the main Outlook window, go to the Tools menu and click on "Rules Wizard..." This will open the "Rules Wizard" window.
  2. Click the "New..." button.
  3. Click on the "Start from a blank rule" option.
  4. Ensure that "Check messages when they arrive" is selected and click "Next".
  5. From the next page, tick the line "with specific words in the subject".
  6. Text appears in the lower window. Click on "specific words" to set them.
  7. Enter "*SPAM*" (exactly as shown, but without quotes) into the Search Text box which appears then click ADD and click OK. Click next.
  8. From this page, tick the line "move it to the specified folder".
  9. Text appears in the lower window. Click on "specific folder", which lets you browse your folders. Select the desired destination folder for Spam email messages, the folder you created earlier (e.g. "Spam Mail");.
  10. Click "Finish".
  11. Click on OK to close the Rules Wizard.
